IFS Clipboard Sync Tool
With the move from a PC Client to a web only interface, IFS is missing the ability to easily copy data between environments, IFS does provide two data migration solutions: Migration Jobs (FNDMIG) and Data Migration Manager (DMM), however, there is still a need for users to have a simple migration tool that allows updates in Excel to enable the ability to manipulate data and to move data between environments.
Out of the box, IFS Cloud will only copy and paste between the same environment. This lacks the flexibility needed when moving data between non-prod environments. With our innovative add-in, we can now copy between different instances of IFS Cloud, and even Apps 10 Aurena to Cloud.
We can also export the data to a CSV file to allow it to be opened in Excel, manipulated and then loaded back in. This replicates the "Magic Spreadsheet" that many people use and love in older environments.
Copy and Paste Between Environments
Using the standard Copy function in IFS Cloud and Aurena, the data is copied to the browser shared storage area. This is then made available to your other IFS Instance where you will use the standard Paste function.
The data can only be pasted into the same table that you copied it from as per the standard IFS Logic. Our innovative add-in simply allows you to share this data between the two instances.
The data is copiied to the shared clipboard using IFS standard functionality.
The data is available in other IFS Cloud or IFS Apps 10 Aurena sessions. The data is pasted using IFS standard functionality
The rows are pased in and can now be further edited and saved.
Data can be exported to Excel
Although the standard IFS "Export to Excel" functionality can export the data on screen, the names of the column titles in our export are not preserved, which makes re-importing the data from Excel difficult.
Using our Export to Excel feature, will preserve the column names so that when we re-import, the same columns can be targetted when using the standard paste functionality.
Data can be Imported from Excel files
Using the IFS Clipboard Sync tool, after exporting your data, you can then manipulate this in excel ready to re-import the data using the same, easy to use tool.
Using the Import function, the new data from the Excel sheet has been updated on the clipboard. Using the standard Paste Rows function in IFS Cloud, we can now paste the rows into the screen and continue to update or save the records.
Data Security
The data is stored and accesed from your browser. When the browser is closed, the shared storage between the IFS instances is wiped clean. IFS continues to manage the local storage for each of the IFS instances.
The Add-In is configurable to run in a managed environment where Group Policy can dictate the allowed URLs the data can be shared with. If used in a non-managed environment the add-in will request user consent to add the URL to the allowed list. Logic exists to only show this prompt if the web page is an IFS envronment.
